Basic Dough Recipe

Use this basic dough snacks, pizzas and more! You can find them in our resources section. If you want to bring the family together and have some great-tasting results, try baking together... if you're not afraid of the mess of course! It will teach them some kitchen basic, and is a fun way to bond. Making something as simple as bread or pretzels can be real entertainment with all the options- what child doesn't enjoy creating crazy shaped from dough?

At-Home Baking kits are a great start, as they have already-mixed ingredients and are generally kids-friendly. There are plenty of examples as to what you can do with the basic dough
  • Pretzels -twist them into the classic pretzel bows, or keep it as simple sticks. You can get some sesame seeds on the top, or dip them in honey for a sweet treat. You can also create letters and numbers from your pretzels!
  • Appetizers -wrap the dough around hot dog sausages and cut into bite-size treats. You can also coat them with herbs, salt and olive oil for a tasty nugget-like snack.
  • Pizza -make mini-pizzas with small crusts. You can also make mini-pies with variety of toppings like fruits, ham, cheese, halloumi and olives, sun-dried tomatoes and feta... anything you can imagine.

You can also make some lovely desserts using dough. All you need is to add some chocolate, cinnamon, sugar or caramel. Bread pudding will make a sweet and doughy dessert. Here is a recipe for the dough

What You Need
-packet of yeast-1 & 1/4 luke-warm water (40°C, do not exceed 50°C)
-packet of dough mix
-some flour (to keep the dough from sticking to the table)
  1. Dissolve content of 1 yeast packet in the water in a large bowl. If the water is above 50°C, the yeast agent will 'die' and the dough will not raise. Let it sit for about 2 minutes, with the bow covered with a towel kept in a room temperature.
  2. Add the packet of dough mix to the mixture. Use hands or a spoon/spatula. If the dough seems too sticky/runny add some flour. Mix until the dough is quite firm and even (this will take some time and strength).
  3. Form the dough into a large ball and place onto a lightly floured tabletop and knead it with your hands until it's soft, lighty and a bit tacky (aprx. 5-7 minutes). 
  4. Place dough ball into a large bowl that has been coated with non-stick spray. Coat a sheet of plastic wrap with the spray and place it on top of the bowl (this will prevent it from drying out).
  5. Place the bowl in a 30°C spot for 30 minutes and let it raise.
