Dating can be Tough: Interesting Dating Information!

The whole dating process can be hard and scary as hell for most single people. It becomes twice as hard when you are divorced or a single parent. In fact, in the recent years, statistics show that dating is on it's way out. In some countries, dating is a basic step for people interested in building a relationship.
On the other hand, Cyprus is still more traditional.

However, if you are available and into dating there are some things you may want to be aware of such as "what to do" and "what no to do on a date."

Find out more about dating below:

  • Couples usually wait until 6 to 8 dates before they are willing to enter into an exclusive relationship.
  • It takes 1 hour for a woman to determine whether or not she wants to date a managain. A man decides in 15 minutes.
  • What is known as a French Kiss in the English speaking world is called an English Kiss in France.
  • Wednesday is the best day for a first date according to a survey of singles.
  • The average man sees 5 women a day he would like to sleep with.
  • In an argument with your partner, when your heart rate goes over 100 beats per minute, you are incapable of hearing what your partner is trying to tell you.
  • The most common time for breakups is around 3 to 5 months.
  • On average, it takes between 12 to 14 dates before couples will trade house keys.
  • One in 3 teenagers have experienced violence in a dating relationship.
  • Studies show that women are attracted to men in blue.
  • Researchers at the University of Chicago found that people were twice as likely to find a date through friends and family than through the bar scene.
  • In online dating, women are most afraid of meeting a serial killer. Men are afraid of meeting someone “fat.”
  • Studies show that schools, colleges, coffee shops, and malls are all excellent places to flirt because people are more open to meeting others in these places. Poor locations are restaurants and movie theaters.
  • Studies show that men are put off by groups of loud women. She should break away from a loud group to give a man a chance to approach her.
  • If you want to create an instant link with a date, say their name at least twice in the conversation. This shows attentiveness and connection.
  • One of the biggest turn-offs during a date is negativity. Top 10 turn-offs for women include cystic acne, raggedy nails, flatulence and belching, missing teeth, body odor, bad breath, hairy nostrils, "man boobs", "goofy" glasses, and hair "mistakes".
  • If a group of women are standing together but their eyes are wandering, they are likely to be looking for guys.
  • If a woman is interested in her date, she will often smile at his jokes, play with her hair, fidget with an object such as a glass, blush when he pays her a compliment, pout or pucker her mouth, stumble over words, or lean in towards him.
  • Signs that a woman is not interested in her date include avoiding eye contact, faking a smile or not smiling, leaning away, answering in monosyllables, sagging her shoulders, looking at her watch, tapping her foot, or staring blankly.
  • Beautiful women typically get more stares, winks, and harassment than average-looking women do, but they are also less likely to get asked out by average-looking men because those men tend to be intimated by them.

HOT CROSS BUNS

English Easter has passed and the Orthodox Easter will be here soon....as a Cypriot born and bred in the U.K, I feel privileged to grow up within two cultures, everything is different within you because of this, our humour, our values, some of the choices we make and of course our knowledge of two very different cuisines....Moussaka followed by Apple Tart...Traditional English Roasted Turkey on Christmas Day and Souvla,Pastitsio and Kollokassi on Boxing Day...yes, indeed we are lucky!!! Today, I have those lovely sticky traditional English Easter cakes, Hot Cross Buns and next week it'll be flaounes!! Enjoy!!

Ingredients

For the buns
625 g Flour
1 tsp Salt
2 tsp ground mixed spice
45g unsalted butter, cut into cubes, plus extra for greasing
85g Sugar
Zest of one Lemon
1 sachet yeast
1 Egg
275ml tepid Milk
125g Mixed Dried Fruit..I prefer to use sultanas
For the topping
2 tblsp plain flour
Vegetable oil for greasing
Honey, gently heated for glazing

Method

For the buns, sieve the flour, salt and ground mixed spice into a bowl, then rub in the butter using your fingertips. Make a well in the centre of the mixture, and then add the sugar and lemon zest and yeast.
Beat the egg and add to the flour with the tepid milk. Mix together to a form a soft, pliable dough.
Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured work surface. Add the mixed dried fruit or sultanas into the dough until well combined. Knead lightly for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Grease a large, warm mixing bowl with butter. Shape the dough into a ball and place it into the prepared bowl, then cover with a clean tea towel and set aside in a warm place for one hour to prove.
Turn out the proved dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knock back the dough. Shape it into a ball again and return it to the bowl, then cover again with the tea towel and set aside for a further 30 minutes to rise.
Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten slightly into a bun shape using the palms of your hands. Cover the buns again with the tea towel and set aside to rest for 5-10 minutes.
Grease a baking tray with butter and transfer the buns to the tray. Cover with a tea towel and set aside in a warm place for a further 40 minutes to rise.
Preheat the oven to 240C/475F/Gas 8.
Meanwhile, for the topping, mix the plain flour to a smooth paste with 2 tablespoons of cold water.Spoon the flour mixture into a piping bag and pipe a cross on each bun.
Transfer the buns to the oven and bake for 8-12 minutes, or until pale golden-brown. As soon as you remove the buns from the oven, brush them with the hot honey, then set aside to cool on a wire rack.

BAKLAVA

Ingredients

For the Baklava:

450g Walnuts, coarsely ground, plus more for garnish
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup ground breadcrumbs
450g unsalted butter, melted
16 sheets phyllo dough (thawed, if frozen), cut in half

For the Syrup:

3 cups sugar
1 Jar Honey, about 8 oz
1 1/2 Cups water
1 to 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Method
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Brush a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with some of the butter.

Combine the nuts, cinnamon and breadcrumbs in a bowl.

Layer 10 pieces of phyllo in the dish, brushing each piece with butter before adding the next (keep the remaining dough covered with a damp towel).
Sprinkle a quarter of the nut mixture over the dough. Layer 4 pieces of phyllo on top, brushing each with butter before adding the next; sprinkle with another quarter of the nut mixture. Add 4 more phyllo pieces on top, brushing each with butter, then add another quarter of the nut mixture, 4 more pieces of phyllo with butter, and the remaining nuts.

Layer the remaining 10 pieces of phyllo on top of the nuts, brushing each with butter; brush the top piece with extra butter.
Cut into the baklava to make strips, about 1 1/2 inches wide. Then make diagonal slices, about 1 1/2 inches apart, to create a diamond pattern.

Bake until golden, about 1 hour.

To make the syrup combine sugar, honey and water and cook over a medium heat for about 15 minutes. Add lemon juice and cook for a further 5 minutes, Leave to cool. Pour over cooled baklava and leave for at least 6 hours or overnight.

Garnish with chopped nuts

Most people nowadays use Facebook either to stay in touch with friends and family, to promote their business or cause, to find information on local events or just to keep an eye on their children. It is a fantastic social platform on which many things can go wrong. We will be talking about privacy settings and how to check for those groups you are added to without your consent. Did you even know that is possible? Tips on how to moderate photos where you are tagged and how to optimise your personal profile for business purposes will be given. There will hopefully be plenty of time for discussion and perhaps exchange of experiences on the use of this and other social platforms such as LinkedIN, g+, Pinterest and Twitter.

LPN Mum Veronica Athanasiou is a Biology teacher who has been helping business owners who are not familiar with the social platform for over a year. With only a science academic background and not a computer expert Veronica basically translates and presents the information in very simple terms to people who she calls ‘mortals’ as opposed to computer experts.

Cinnamon Buns

INGREDIENTS

Dough:
590 – 660g Flour
7g packet of active dry yeast
240 ml milk
75g Butter
60g Sugar
3 large eggs

Filling:
160g light brown sugar
35g Flour
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
110g Butter, cold (cut into pieces)
200g Sultanas

Glaze:
60g Icing sugar
1-2 Tbls Milk

METHOD
  1. In a large bowl combine 300g of the flour and the yeast.
  2. In a small saucepan, stirring constantly, heat the milk, butter and sugar until just warm and the butter is almost melted.
  3. Add the milk mixture into the flour mixture and mix.
  4. Now start adding the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then add as much of the remaining flour until you have a soft dough that is smooth and elastic (3 to 5 minutes), but not sticky. If you find your dough is too sticky add a little flour.
  5. Shape the dough into a ball and place in a greased bowl. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place until almost doubled (approximately 1 1/2 - 2 hours). Then gently punch the dough to release the air and let rest for 10 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, make the filling. In a bowl stir together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter and mix until the mixture is crumbly. Add the sultanas.
  7. Roll the dough into a 30 cm square. Sprinkle the filling evenly over the rolled out dough. Lightly brush one end of the dough with a little milk (to seal the edges of the rolls). Roll the dough to form a log, starting at the end opposite the edge you brushed with milk. (Do not roll the dough too tightly or the centers of the rolls will pop up during baking.) Slice the log into eight equal-sized pieces. Arrange rolls in a greased 33 x 23 x 5 cm baking pan. Cover rolls with a towel, leaving room for rolls to rise, at room temperature, until almost doubled. I left mine overnight or if you're making them in the morning they should be ready by the afternoon.
  8. Lightly brush rolls with the milk. Bake in a 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until light brown, and a toothpick inserted into one of the buns, comes out clean.
  9. Brush again with some milk. Cool and then invert onto a baking rack.
  10. Drizzle with the glaze.

Afelia - Pork & Potatoes Cooked in Wine and Coriander Seeds

Ingredients

1½ Kilo of Pork Bacon Chops, cut into cubes
1½ Kilo Small New Potatoes, scrubbed clean
2 Cups of Dry Red Wine
½ Cup of Coriander Seeds, lightly crushed
1 Stick of Cinnamon
Some Oil for frying

Method

Mix the wine with the coriander seeds and cinnamon to make a marinade.
Pour over the meat and marinade overnight or for about 4 hours in the fridge.
To prepare the potatoes you need to crush them lightly just to snap them a little so that they absorb all the juices when cooked.
When you are ready to start cooking, take the meat out of the marinade, keeping the marinade to one side.
Add the oil to a heavy based pan and on a low heat start browning the meat . Place in a cooking pot when cooked through and golden brown.
Add more oil to your pan and cook the potatoes until crispy. Add to the meat.
Now add the marinade to the the meat and potatoes and toss until well coated and simmer until the juices evaporate and you are left with a thick sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
